Import Canon XF105/XF100 MXF files to iMovie on Mac

If you are a camcorder fan, you may know much about Canon XF series camcorders, they are excellent camcorders used by many professional photographers. It's great to use Canon XF105/XF100 camcorder to record videos with vivid image. Then after editing MXF recordings in Premiere Pro, FCP, or iMovie, etc, we can enjoy the movies with a nice effect, right?

*************************************

Canon XF105 professional Camcorder is a compact, lightweight and fully functional camcorder that can be tailored to fit a wide range of individual needs. And Canon's XF100 HD Professional Camcorder is an amazingly compact, fully featured pro video camera that imports nearly all the features and functionality of the 3-chip XF300 into a smaller, single sensor form factor.

Taking advantage of the latest HD technology–along with Canon's robust MPEG-2 4:2:2 codec–The XF105/XF100 utilizes Canon's XF Codec-a file-based MPEG-2 compression with an MXF File Wrapper that ensures the widest compatibility with existing industry infrastructure, metadata and non-linear editing (NLE) systems.

Many Canon users will find importing issues when putting MXF recordings into iMovie. The reason is that iMovie can't handle Canon MXF files smoothly. Now here is a solution, of course, to help you transfer MXF footage to imovie. The next few steps will show you how to do with Canon MXF shootings (taken with Canon XF105 or XF100) before importing the Canon XF MXF footage to iMovie on Mac OS X.

Before processing, you're suggested to

1. Transfer mxf clips from Canon XF 105/XF100 camcorderto Mac computer.

2. Download and Install Pavtube Pavtube MXF Converter for Mac. The best Mac MXF to iMovie Converter can transcode Canon XF105/XF100 MXF files to iMovie friendly AIC MOV for smooth editing on Mac (Yosemite included). (Read also Best MXF Converter for Mac Review)

Guide: Transcode Canon MXF to Apple Intermediate Codec for iMovie editing

Step 1. Launch the Pavtube Mac MXF to AIC Converter. Click "Add" and browse to a Canon .mxf clip and the software will add it to file list. Repeat the operation to load multiple .mxf videos.

Step 2. Click on "Format" and choose "iMovie > Apple Intermediate Codec (*.mov)".

You can click "Settings" and adjust bitrate (from 1Mbps to 20Mbps) your requirement. You can also set a different video resolution (1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480) and frame rate(24p/30p) as long as you like.

Step 3. Click "Convert" to start converting Canon XF105/XF100 MXF to AIC videos for imovie.

After conversion click "Open" to find .mov videos and import converted .mov files to imovie for editing. Now you can smoothly edit XF105/XF100 MXF files in imovie as you want, just enjoy yourself.

Tip 1: Video and audio are separate when it comes to MXF, don't drop the Audio folder when loading .mxf files to Pavtube Canon MXF Converter for Mac, as the software will detect and find audio for corresponding video clips automatically.

Tip 2: Pavtube HD Converter for Mac can convert 1080p cameras/camcorders footages to editable HD video formats for non-linear editing software like iMovie, Final Cut Express, Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Studio, Avid, Adobe Premiere etc. The HD footage can be compressed to SD video clips for storage when you wanna save storage space.
