Convert and edit Canon XF305 MXF files to iMovie on Mac

Canon XF series camcorders is excellent, such as XF305, now you want to edit XF305 MXF videos in iMovie on Mac, but imovie can’t import MXF files. There is a solution, of course, to help you transfer MXF footage to imovie. The next few steps will show you how to do with Canon MXF shootings (taken with Canon XF100, XF300, or XF305) before importing the Canon XF footage to imovie.

Before processing, you’re suggested to

1. Transfer mxf clips from Canon XF 305 camcorderto Mac computer.
2. Download and Install Pavtube MXF Converter for Mac.

Guide: Transcode/Convert Canon MXF to Apple ProRes Intermediate Codec for imovie editing

Step 1. Launch the Pavtube Mac MXF to imovie Converter. Click “Add” and browse to a Canon .mxf clip and the software will add it to file list. Repeat the operation to load multiple .mxf videos.

Step 2. Click on “Format” and choose “iMovie > Apple Intermediate Codec (*.mov)”.

Step 3. Click “Convert” to start converting Canon XF305 MXF to Apple Intermediate Codec videos for imovie.
After conversion click “Open” to find .mov videos and import converted .mov files to imovie for editing.
Tip 1: You can click “Settings” and adjust bitrate (from 1Mbps to 20Mbps) your requirement. You can also set a different video resolution (1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480) and frame rate(24p/30p) as long as you like.

Tip 2: Video and audio are separate when it comes to MXF, don’t drop the Audio folder when loading .mxf files to Pavtube HD MXF to imovie Converter for Mac, as the software will detect and find audio for corresponding video clips automatically.
